Audio Origami Tonearms for Linn Sondek LP12

Audio Origami Tonearms…
The ultimate upgrade for Linn Sondek LP12 turntables.

If you ask ten vinyl enthusiasts what the single most impactful upgrade on a Linn Sondek LP12 is, you will get ten different answers. Some will say the power supply; others will argue for the sub-chassis or the cartridge. But if you look at the physics of analogue playback, the tonearm is the single component that makes the most profound, fundamental difference to your sound.

A turntable rotates the platter, and a power supply maintains that rotation. But the tonearm is the mechanical partner to your cartridge. It is responsible for holding the stylus perfectly steady in a microscopic, vibrating groove while managing massive amounts of resonant energy. If the tonearm vibrates, flexes, or suffers from bearing friction, it masks the tiny micro-details that give music its life, depth, and emotion.

At Audio Origami, we have a deep, decades-long heritage with the LP12. We don’t just build tonearms that happen to fit it; we engineer arms that unlock its true potential.

Why Audio Origami is the
Ultimate Mechanical Match for the LP12...

The Linn LP12 is legendary for its fluid, musical, and organic presentation. However, its famous three-point suspended sub-chassis makes it incredibly sensitive to weight, balance, and mechanical feedback.

Many modern tonearms are either too heavy for the Linn suspension to handle correctly or they don't mitigate resonance, transferring unwanted energy straight back into the delicate sub-chassis. The PU7 GTS and PU8 are engineered specifically to overcome these challenges through precise mechanical principles.

1: Perfect Geometric and Weight Synergy

Our 9-inch tonearms are built to the exact Linn geometry and mounting patterns. More importantly, we pay meticulous attention to weight distribution.

An Audio Origami arm allows your LP12’s suspension to be set up perfectly, bouncing cleanly and evenly without forcing you to compromise on sub-chassis balance.

2: Constrained Layer Damped Armtubes

A tonearm tube must remain acoustically dead. To achieve this, both the PU7 GTS and PU8 utilize advanced constrained-layer damping.

By bonding contrasting materials under tension, resonant energy is converted into microscopic heat, dropping background noise away completely to leave a stark, black canvas for your music.

3: Precision Gimbal Bearing Assemblies

An arm is only as good as its bearings. Combining precise, hand-adjusted gimbal housings with ultra-smooth Japanese bearings provides a rock-solid tracking platform.

This tightened mechanical control eliminates mid-bass bloat while retaining the classic LP12 warmth, revealing a more defined souundstage, deeper layers, and a driving low-end grip.

Choosing the Right Audio Origami Tonearm for Your Linn Sondek LP12...

Whether you are running an entry-level Majik, a highly evolved Akurate/Selekt configuration, or a top-tier Klimax-level LP12, we have an arm engineered for your system.

The PU7 GTS
The Classic Evolution

The PU7 GTS is a beautifully machined, high-performance arm that has been a favourite of LP12 owners for years.

Featuring our constrained-layer-damped armtube design and our proprietary Meta-Material Arm Damping System, which “floats” the internal wiring inside the armtube, it offers an incredibly fluid, open, and natural presentation.

If you want a tonearm that honours the classic Linn musicality while bringing a massive leap forward in resolution, focus, and tracking security, the PU7 GTS is a legendary drop-in choice.

The PU8 Reference
Absolute Resolution and Control

The PU8 is our flagship tonearm and competes with tonearms many times its price level.

Taking the concept of mechanical silence even further, it combines a mirror-polished, stainless steel construction with a constrained-layer-damped armtube and our unique Meta-Material Arm Damping System version 2.

Designed for top-flight LP12 configurations where absolute transparency is required, the PU8 delivers massive structural rigidity, startling dynamic authority, and deep bass layering by allowing high-end cartridges to truly perform without a ceiling.

A Note on Installation...

Every 9-inch Audio Origami tonearm is a seamless, drop-in fit for the LP12. It requires no permanent modifications to your plinth or top plate, preserving the structural integrity and resale value of your turntable.

However, because the LP12’s suspended chassis requires a precise mechanical balancing, setting up any can be intricate. Unless you are experienced in tuning Linn suspension and dressing arm cables, we recommend having a qualified dealer install the arm and set up your deck.
